Information for Event Harassment Contact Persons

This page contains information for harassment contact persons in Tietokilta events.

The primary role of an event harassment contact person is to be the first point of contact in harassment cases and to provide support during the event to those who have experienced harassment. They are also responsible for advancing the case if necessary, with the consent of the affected party. This role is confidential, and harassment contact persons are bound by a duty of confidentiality in all cases.

This document does not replace AYY's harassment contact person training but explains how the training materials are applied in practice within the guild. It is also advisable to review the event organizers' guidelines to understand what is expected of you. The duties of a harassment contact person are further defined in the guild's Code of Conduct.

Signing Up as an Event Harassment Contact Person

Information about the harassment contact persons needed for events is shared in the Tietokilta event harassment contact persons' Telegram group. If you are available, express your willingness in the group. If you are selected, the guild's event harassment contact person coordinator will request your contact information and a photo for the event materials.

You can sign up as a harassment contact person for an event as soon as the event registration opens. According to the 2025 board's policy, harassment contact persons' event tickets are free up to 50 euros, and decisions regarding more expensive tickets are made on a case-by-case basis. Therefore, please do not pay the participation fee for the event.

Please note that Tietokilta event harassment contact persons must have completed both parts of AYY's harassment contact person training or equivalent training through another student union.

If you are interested in acting as a harassment contact person at events, you can apply to join the group through this form! Information about AYY's harassment contact person trainings is shared in the group, so you can apply even if you have not yet completed the training.

Harassment Contact Person Attire

Tietokilta's harassment contact persons can be identified by a pink harassment contact person ribbon. The ribbon can be worn, for example, tied around the arm or in the style of an academic ribbon from the right shoulder to the left hip. The most important thing is that the ribbon is visible, so please do not wear other accessories over it!

You can find the harassment contact person’s ribbon in Tietokilta’s guild room, on the top shelf of the middle shelf, next to the board members’ mailboxes. If the ribbon runs out, you can ask the board members for more from the h-koppi. You can cut the desired length and keep it for yourself—the ribbon will likely last for several events. If the ribbon becomes stained or torn, you are welcome to get a new one.

During the Event

Be actively present at the event and accessible via both phone and Telegram. Remain at the event for the agreed duration. The default is from the beginning of the event until the end of its official part, including the official afterparty. However, exceptions can be made if agreed upon in advance.

Your primary duty is to support and listen to anyone who experiences harassment. Consider in advance a quiet place where you can talk privately if needed. If the affected person wishes, you also have the right to:

  • Clearly and calmly inform the person that their behavior is inappropriate and not tolerated at guild events
  • Request that the person immediately stop the harassing behavior
  • Ask the person engaging in harassing behavior to leave the event

After the Event

If someone involved in the harassment situation was under the influence of alcohol, it is advisable to follow up on the matter after the event. The guild's or AYY's harassment contact persons can always assist in handling the situation if the affected party wishes or the situation requires it.

The harassment contact person will continue to address the matter and decide on further actions together with the affected party and only with their consent. Depending on the severity of the situation, the following measures may be considered:

  • With the affected person's consent, the person suspected of harassment is informed that their actions have been experienced as harassing. All parties involved are heard fairly, and the discussions remain confidential between the harassment contact person and the involved parties.
  • The contacted harassment contact person may also recommend and guide the affected person to the guild's general harassment contact persons, AYY's harassment contact persons, YTHS professionals, or, if necessary, the police. However, the decision to contact these authorities rests solely with the affected party.
  • If the harassment involves university staff, the university's designated personnel are responsible for handling the matter. Tietokilta's harassment contact persons can provide support throughout this process if the affected person wishes.
  • If necessary, and with the affected person's consent, the case may be forwarded to the guild board for review, where the board may consider disciplinary actions as outlined in the Code of Conduct.
