Game Progression
The game is played with at least three teams of three players each. There can also be four or even more teams.
The game is played on a board depicting Otaniemi, with a drawn route to follow. Players move forward by the number of spaces indicated by dice (two dice are rolled, and the team moves according to the lower result).
The old game board is drawn on the underside of a table from the old guild room. Alternatively, the newer board made in 2001 (updated in 2003) can be used. The new board has a slightly altered route and added special tiles (the number of tiles is the same as in the old version).
At the 2008 election meeting, a motion was passed requiring the Tietokilta board to investigate acquiring its own Tampere, for example, in the guild room. In the same meeting, a Tampere ambassador was appointed, who in early 2009 delivered the Tampere expansion for the Otaniemi Game to the guild-organized Titeenien taisto event. Thus, TiKH '09 fulfilled the motion admirably, and the guild got its own Tampere.
Winning the Game
The first team to reach the guild room with an exact roll wins. If a team overshoots the target, it must move backward the extra number of spaces (which means teams may end up at the old guild room multiple times during the game).
Beers
At the start of the game, each tile contains a bottle of class IV beer. When a team lands on a tile with a bottle, they must drink it before continuing — or risk a penalty beer.
Regular tiles are not refilled; once the bottle is consumed, the tile stays empty.
Penalty Beers
To keep teams from stalling, penalty beers are used. Two systems have been used. The old system gives a team a penalty beer if they haven’t finished their drink/food by the time of their next turn. If this is used, it’s a good idea to place a bucket next to each team’s side of the table...
The newer system places a beer bottle on an empty tile in front of the delaying team. This doesn’t apply to the leading team or to a team that has another team directly behind them. Also, if the leading team is drinking instead of rolling, no penalty beers are added.
Tampere Expansion for the Otaniemi Game
If a team lands on the intersection tile between the power plant and the physics cafeteria, they get “kidnapped” by TiTe’s excursion bus to Tampere. The team is moved to the first tile of the expansion board (the white end tile).
